Brenda has considerable experience having worked as a stuttering specialist for over 15 years. She uses a range of evidence-based therapies to support clients to meet their personal goals. Brenda is passionate about continuing her own education about stuttering, with the aim of bringing the best of what she learns to her clients and her team.
She is part of two international groups that train speech pathologists in stuttering therapies, the Lidcombe Program Trainers Consortium and the Camperdown Program Trainers Consortium. She has trained more than a thousand speech pathologists in Australia, Singapore, Canada, Israel and Japan. Brenda also provides mentoring to clinicians across the world and to local university students.
Brenda was awarded a scholarship and completed a PhD with the Australian Stuttering Research Centre (ASRC). She researched telehealth delivery of the Camperdown Program. Afterwards, Brenda became an Honorary Associate at the Australian Stuttering Research Centre. She has published her research in several international journals, including collaborations with international colleagues. Brenda is a co-author of the Lidcombe Program Guide and the Camperdown Program Guide.
Since 2014, Brenda has presented at several international conferences. She has been a key note speaker at the Oxford Dysfluency Conference (2014) and at the International Conference on Stuttering in Rome (2015). In 2018 and 2024, she presented papers at the International Conference on Stuttering in Rome, and in 2019 she was an invited presenter at the Japan Society of Stuttering and Other Fluency Disorders Conference. She has also presented at an American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA) conference.
Stuttering has been a part of Brenda’s family life, having a daughter who stuttered in preschool and whom she did the Lidcombe Program with.
Brenda is the Convenor of the Victorian Stuttering Interest Group, which provides support and professional development for speech pathologists.
Brenda consults on Mondays, she provides Initial Assessments and chooses the appropriate clinician for therapy.
