Shane is a speech pathologist with nearly 20 years of clinical experience working with people who stutter across the lifespan. Shane is trained in a wide range of therapies for children and adults who stutter including the Lidcombe Program and Camperdown Program.
As the father of two young children, Shane understands many of the challenges of families who attend the clinic. He believes that building a strong therapeutic relationship with clients and their families is integral to a successful outcome in treatment and recognises that no two clients are the same.
Shane is a senior lecturer and Speech Pathology Discipline Lead at La Trobe University. He teaches stuttering curricula to students at an undergraduate and postgraduate level at three different tertiary institutions around Australia.
Shane received his PhD after developing and publishing research on a world first stand-alone internet-based treatment for adults who stutter. He has published journal articles and presented papers at international and national conferences on the impact of stuttering, the clinical measurement of stuttering, the use of technology in the delivering speech pathology, and has recently investigated the roles and practices of speech pathologists working with people who stutter in several clinical contexts. He is also a co-author of the Speech Pathology Australia Clinical Guideline for Stuttering Management and has a passion for integrating the best available research evidence into his clinical practice.
